Weak vs Strong Automation (Video)

2 min read

Most shops are held back by outdated systems and fear of costly, time-consuming change. But that’s no longer the barrier it once was.
In this weeks video, Andrew Smith explains how ZenSmart’s new AI-Start and AI-Learn tools slash implementation time and cost — making it faster, safer, and cheaper to move to full automation.  If you’re still running on patchwork systems, this is the shift you’ve been waiting for.

At the sites I visit, I see two types of operations, weak automation and strong automation. Weak automation covers basically 95% of businesses. These are the shops that are running on a legacy of software, there’s gaps, black holes, missing data, but it functions sort of. Strong automation is a rare exception. These are the sites that have either spent big on internal devs or implemented our or a competitor platform and they’ve got a dial in. They’re 100% automated under the press. They’re doing real time queuing, batching, pickings fully integrated. They know where every single item is at every stage of production. Reprints are done with surgical precision and compliance is tight. If anything’s going to breach SLA, it escalates immediately. My experience has been that for shops running weak automation though, but the concept of change is scary. Scary in terms of time commitment or money. And so it’s just easier just to do nothing because it sort of works. But the good news, if you’re one of the 90% that haven’t fully automated, we’ve just changed the game. As Sammy has been writing about in the last couple of newsletters, we’ve introduced two really important pieces of technology. They’re called AI start and AI learn. And what it means is that for an implementation that’s typically been weeks of effort, we can get you live now in literally days. Commercially, it’s also got a whole lot cheaper, which gives you super fast return investment and the agility to outperform your competition. And we’ve been able to achieve this because of the application of AI systems to be able to interpret all of your products, all of your SKUs, all of the components, map them to workflows and implement all word automatically, and then be able to tie that back to a learning framework, also using AI to enable you to gradually grow into the system. If you’re interested to know more about how AI is impacting, how it could totally transform your business, reach out. We’d love to speak with you about it. Thank you.
