I was at the Drupa trade show in Düsseldorf there a few weeks ago. One of the key themes of the show was about labor shortages and how they’re impacting digital production and the on-demand industry generally. It’s become so severe that firms are recruiting people from outside the industry to fill gaps. I saw innovation around this topic falling into three buckets. One, machine upgrades. Two, task replacement. And three, workflow optimization. The first one is basically machine upgrades. Doing things faster using a high cycle rate. Moving from SRA3 to a B2 press or from a single DTG station to a corner atlas. Secondly is task replacement. Robotics were a big theme of the show. Many robots were shown doing things like transporting on or off device as well as moving goods between different machines. Basically, complete role replacement. And thirdly, there’s workflow optimization, which focuses on organizing the factory and gaining insights to enhance efficiency, which is where we play. Fundamentally, all of these solutions are focused on solving the same problem. But our view is that the biggest commercial impact is going to come from addressing your whole flow and taking effort out of the whole operation rather than an individual bespoke effort. So if you want to debate how automation can impact your labour shortages and help solve those challenges, reach out. We’d love to talk about it. Thank you.
