Visibility is the Foundation (Video)

< 1 min read

Visibility is the foundation of factory optimization. In this weeks video I explain why 1) knowing where work is 2) who’s doing it and 3) when it was done, transforms resilience, quality, and margin. Get these elements right and you unlock a whole new level of factory capability.

Transcript

When I talk about optimizing a factory, I always start with one foundation and that’s visibility. And visibility really boils down to just three things. Where is the work right now? Who is doing it? When was it done? And if you know those three answers, suddenly you unlock an entirely new level of control. You can see bottlenecks, you can see performance, and you can see opportunities. With visibility in place, you can improve how you run the day-to-day business, recover quickly when a machine goes down or someone calls in sick. You can handle failed products cleanly and keep your SLAs intact and so keep your customers happy. And here’s the beauty of it. Visibility doesn’t require a huge technology overhaul. It’s as simple as two actions, either a quick barcode scan or pulling a machine log and that’s it. From those simple points of data, everything else flows, resilience, improvement and agility. They’re all built on that foundation of visibility. If you’re curious about how to implement visibility in your own factory, reach out. My team and I would love to share with you what works. Take care.
