Blockers and Barriers to Automation? (Video)

< 1 min read

Why is full automation in on-demand production still a rarity? This video uncovers three barriers holding back manufacturers from achieving seamless, interconnected workflows. Explore what is holding many companies back.

Transcript

Very few companies in on-demand production have fully automated. Most automations are piecemeal solutions. It might be automation of pre-press and a couple of workstations that talk to a back-end database, but that’s about it. They see production as a series of separate tasks rather than one big, beautiful, interconnected flow. So what are the blockers? What is stopping a more complete automation of manufacturing? You see three things, and they are one, vision. Most burns see automation as being individual actions at a single workflow stage or a focus on pre-press. The key breakthrough in thinking is to see the factory as a whole and to close out all the black holes. Number two is trust. Choosing to implement a new piece of software has a trust barrier to overcome. Having strong reference sites, therefore, is important. Thirdly, cost. Most businesses see IT projects as being a big dollar spend, but with subscription as a service and monthly-based subscriptions, those issues have largely gone away. So if you want to talk about how automation could reduce your manufacturing costs and take an end-when view and take between 10% and 30% out of your cost structure, reach out. I’d love to share our opinions.
