The Importance of Rhythm in POD (Video)

Factory rhythm is one of the biggest cost drivers in print-on-demand. When production flows smoothly, costs stay low. When bottlenecks form, inefficiency creeps in. In this video, Andrew Smith, Founder & MD at ZenSmart, explores how automation creates seamless, cost-effective workflows. Watch now to learn more!

Today I want to talk about rhythm. It’s because one of the key cost drivers in print-on-demand manufacturing is maintaining good rhythm. And good rhythm occurs when the cadence of work flows smoothly through every process stage from forming batches through ripping, printing and into the finishing workflow. This means that the batch sizes are optimized so that each downstream stage operates at the right capacity. And when done correctly, this prevents production bottlenecks from forming at any one process stage. The result is less handling, fewer errors and no wasted time tracking items. A continuous seamless flow from order receipt to shipping results. An effectory with good rhythm has a vastly different cost structure than one that experiences constant ebbs and flows. Every production bottleneck or surge that creates a dislocation adds cost. So where does automation fit in? Automation is the tool that gives you perfect factory rhythm. It provides the control and data to prevent the log jams and give you that constant smooth flow through your factory. And if you’d like to learn how we can help you achieve good rhythm in your factory, reach out, we’d love to talk with you about it.
